ROMAN COLSSEUM
The Roman Colosseum was built by Flavian emperors between 71 and 80 A.D. "They held shows like venations(hunts) and muneras(gladiator games)." The Colosseum was used for four and a half centuries. It was made mostly of stone, but had many wooden elements, which were destroyed many times by fire during its history. The last gladiator game was held there in 404 A.D. and the last “hunt” (venatio) was held there in 523 A.D.
PANTHEON
The Pantheon is a building in Rome, Italy, commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian in about 126 AD. It has large granite columns. "It’s one of the most well preserved Roman buildings." Since the 7th century it has been used as a Catholic church.
AQUEDUCTS
Rome’s population was growing fast and they had many enemies. They saw the urgency of an alternate source of water. The feared that their enemies might try to poison their water supply. So they created a way to transport water through aqueducts. These were structures made to transport water over long distances – both underground and over land. "It is estimated that they brought 1200 million liters of water to Rome a day."
